Product Description
The Pavina iced beverage glass is the winner of the European iF Design Award. The Pavina double wall glasses can be use the whole year round. You can use them for your cold drinks in summer and hot drinks in winter. They are made of a very strong but yet light weight glass (borosilicate glass). They can safely go in the dishwasher and microwave. No coaster needed.Bodum's insulated glassware is made from durable Borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is a strong heat-resistant glass that weighs less than traditional glassware. Used to make scientific lab glass, borosilicate glass (medical grade glass) is stronger than traditional "soda-lime" glass and can be used for everything from drinkware to cookware. Some people may perceive the glass to be "thin" as they hold it. It is important to understand the difference between borosilicate and soda lime glass. Borosilicate glass doesn't need to be as thick as traditional glass to be just as strong. Borosilicate is simply a different type of glass that is resistant to temperature swings and scratching. Because the particles are held together so tightly, borosilicate glass is dishwasher safe and will not become cloudy over time; you can rest assured that after 100 cycles, the glass will be as clear as the day you bought it. Simply treat it as you would any glass product and it will stand up to every day use. Our insulated, double wall g

Amazon.com Review
With futuristic looks and high-tech construction, Bodum's Pavina drinkware makes an exciting departure from traditional glassmaking. The walls of each vessel are crafted from two layers of clear glass, creating an optical illusion that the liquid is suspended inside. Softening the look, Pavina's shapes feature smooth, rounded silhouettes. The inner wall also curves slightly away from the outer wall for a touch of understated elegance.

This set of two double wall iced tea/iced beverage glasses serves sun-brewed tea, fruit smoothies, or even a steaming latte with ease. Crafted of borosilicate glass, which is also used to make scientific lab equipment, the pair is exceptionally strong, lightweight, and thermal. The two-layer construction also resists heat and prevents condensation, so no matter what temperature the beverage is, the glasses remain comfortable to hold and safe for any tabletop. Winner of the prestigious European IF Design Award, this 21-ounce scratch-resistant set goes into the dishwasher and microwave. Mix and match Pavina with the Assam and Canteen lines to stock the bar or dining table with a variety of fun shapes. --Kara Karll

Editor's Note: Because the glasses are mouth blown, each one may have slight variations in height, thickness, and weight. Bodum recommends using care when placing ice into the glass to avoid fracturing the inner layer. Do not use metal spoons or place the glass into a crowded dishwasher.

5 out of 5 stars Simply lovely   June 12, 2005

The glasses are beautiful to look at and a pleasure to hold. There is no problem with condensation, even in the humid southern heat.
Complaints about their fragility are a bit confusing. I would never dream of dropping ice cubes directly into nice crystal, and I would not drop ice cubes directly into these glasses either; they are not Wal-Mart tumblers, and should not be treated as such. That said, mine regularly go through the normal cycle in the dishwasher with no problems. I purchased them (8 in all) several months ago, have not lost even one due to breakage, and take great pleasure in using them.

I have owned a smaller size set of these glasses for over a year and these large ones for over 6 months. They are beautiful to look at and hold, and do a wonderful job of keeping drinks hot or cold.

As for the complaints about their fragility- yes, these are fairly thin glass. You can't treat them like plastic, or even heavy duty glass. They say that they are dishwasher safe, but they really aren't. There is a tiny pinhole at the bottom from the glass-blowing process. Moisture will enter between the walls if the glasses are put in the dishwasher. (After developing this problem with one glass, I stopped using the dishwasher for them and sealed the holes in the other glasses with a drop of super glue - no more problems.) But, I have not found the glass to be super-fragile. I have knocked them over on my granite counter top. I have dropped ice cubes into them. No problems.

5 out of 5 stars Great product but don't drop ice cubes into an empty one !   July 11, 2006

Aloha, These are great , but when we used the ice dispenser to place ice into one, the bottom broke open. They don't guarantee them against that . In fact if you read their warnings they tell you not to do that.

I've bought two set each of these ice tea glasses and the next smaller size. I love them! No more sweating and rings on the table. I have no problem getting these in my dishwasher, and yes they spotted up the first time, but that because I was out of jet dry in the dishwasher.

I just order two more sets of the ice tea glasses, love um, love um, love um! Highly recommend them for houses without children though, as they are glass, and on the thinner side.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome, Durable Cup, just be careful with it.   June 9, 2007

I purchased this on April 13, 2007 and have been using it almost everyday since.

Many people have given this one-star ratings because they claim it is fragile. This is unjustified as glasses are fragile and most people would generally put ice in the glass at a 45 degree angle, not horizontally. People generally, do not slam their bodum double walled extra fragile glasses onto counter tops as it would be sure the crack. What I am trying to say is that you have to be careful with the glasses.

Apart from that, I found the glasses exceptionally good for keeping the contents cold or hot. It can contain very hot water and still be comfortable to hold in your hands.

Unless you are staying in an extremely humid area with a relative humidity of 84.4%, condensation is unlikely to form on the outer side of the glass which is a big plus.

The glass can hold a can of soda and lots of ice nicely.

Overall, the cup is a stylish addition to any home but it is at a rather expensive price.
